Two foreign nationals arrested in White River

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested for contravening the Medicine and Related Substances and Immigration acts.

Two foreign nationals were arrested on Friday June 21 for contravening the Medicine and Related Substance Act 101 of 1965 and Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

According to the provincial Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, they had received some information regarding a Nigerian national (42) suspected to be dealing in drugs and also practising as an illegal optometrist in White River.

“The search and seizure warrant was authorised and executed on Friday June 21 during a disruptive operation at the place of the suspect. During the search, a firearm, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine were found in the suspect’s car and seized. A laboratory used to manufacture spectacles was found at his place, ” said Sekgotodi.

She also said the Local Criminal Record Centre’s services summoned to seize the exhibits. The suspect and his friend, aged 44, were arrested. Both of them failed to produce passports.

“The duo were charged and detained pending their first court appearance in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Monday June 24,” she said.

Sekgotodi added that all the exhibits were seized and registered. The firearm will be sent to ballistics.
