Child Welfare Nelspruit joined hands with SPAR Lowveld for its 10th Annual Amazing Race, to make a larger impact in the community.
The streets of Mbombela buzzed with excitement on Saturday May 11 as teams of community members raced across the city in the Child Welfare Nelspruit Amazing Race. This exciting event, modelled after the popular TV show, wasn’t just about competition, but about raising awareness and critical funds for the organisation’s vital work, protecting vulnerable children.

This day wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Jacqui Burns of Cost Plus Building Solutions, who was involved in arranging the pitstops, along with the support of Avis Car Sales, Lowveld Powersports, Konstrukt Paint and Tool, Lions Club of Nelspruit, Riverside Spice Shop, Catbox Hyper, Trends Lounge, Broham Driving Range, Fever Tree Nursery, Nelspruit Trailer Parts, Footgear The Junction, Lowveld National Botanical Garden, i’langa Mall, the Daily Café Nelspruit, Rooikat, Elephant Whispers, Innibos, Roman’s Pizza Sonpark, Ndlovu Waters, Totals Signs Riverside, Uniwisp, and lastly SPAR said Fortunate Sihlangu, the event co-ordinator of Child Welfare Nelspruit.

The Amazing Race, now in its 10th edition, has become a signature event for Child Welfare Nelspruit. This year’s iteration saw a record number of participants, with teams of friends, families and colleagues eagerly taking on the challenge. The racecourse weaved through iconic Mbombela landmarks, with participants decrypting clues, completing fun and creative tasks, and navigating the city in a race against time.

“The atmosphere was electric,” said Bella Mogane, the sponsorships controller of SPAR Lowveld. She said they saw incredible teamwork, bursts of laughter and a genuine spirit of camaraderie as the teams raced to complete the challenges. It was truly heart-warming to see the community come together for such a worthy cause.

“At SPAR, we aim to inspire people to do and be more, and I would like to thank Belladonna KWIKSPAR, Crossing, Westend, The Grove SUPERSPAR, and Steiltes SPAR for hosting the pitstops. We also received so much support from our suppliers, Coca-Cola, Thirti and SAB,” said Mogane.

“Beyond the competitive thrill, the Amazing Race was a resounding success in fundraising. The event raised a significant amount of money, which will directly support Child Welfare Nelspruit’s critical programmes and office needs. These programmes provide vital services such as providing school uniforms and stationery for children and families in need, training women and girls on gender-based violence and emotional defence, and providing food for families who struggle with unemployment, just to name a few,” said Nomfundo Myeza, the office manager.
