Nelspruit Hospice hosts successful pop-up market

The main purpose of this market was to generate income to continue offering palliative home-based care services to extremely ill patients and those diagnosed with terminal life-threatening diseases.

Once again, as in previous years, Nelspruit Hospice hosted one of its four annual pop-up markets on Saturday March 23 as part of its fundraising efforts.

According to Landi Bezuidenhout of Nelspruit Hospice, the pop-up market generates income to continue offering palliative home-based care services to extremely ill patients, those diagnosed with terminal life-threatening diseases and also to render support to their families.

Despite the drizzle and many Lowvelders leaving for the long weekend, the attendance was good and their target was reached. Bezuidenhout also said the pre-loved items on sale were of high quality. This included clothes, books, household items, kitchenware and linen.

Freshly made curry and rice were sold, while tea and coffee were free. There were scrumptious cakes and quiches, and the ladies from the Afrikaans Hervormde Kerk baked some pancakes. Visitors met up with old friends, made new ones and enjoyed lovely eats; all for a good cause.

“We want to thank all our loyal and new supporters, and all the staff and volunteers who worked long hours to ensure the success of the market,” she said. The public can donate to the hospice at any time to keep it going for the sake of those in desperate need of care. The next pop-up market is planned for July 27.
