The mine handed a printer and some sanitary towels over to the school. The uniforms were handed over by the mine’s socio-economic development team and representative of Reatlegile. The donors were welcomed by some delighted SMTs and they applauded the mine for its great work.

The items included shoes, shirts, trousers, jerseys and sanitary towels.

The mine’s management indicated they want to give the pupils pride to go to school and be warm during the winter season. “We aim to see improvement in education. The DCM prioritises education. To the pupils, we urge you to work hard and become future mine managers, head of states and engineers,” said the sustainable development manager, Remember Mmbengwa. “Although Kopi is a remote area, it doesn’t mean it’s not close to us. This school is close to our hearts, and we are committed to assist it with its challenges. This donations reflects our caring attitude towards our community. Education is a key element of a thriving community. Our aspirational vision is for all children in our communities to have access to good education and training.”

He added that such donations allow impoverished learners to see themselves as equal to other learners, which encourages the teaching and learning development.

Mishack Chidi of Reatlegile reiterated that the donations would make a huge difference in the lives of the learners. “These kinds of initiatives are not only about donating uniforms, but also leading by example and supporting the pupils, as they are future leaders.”
