Sinani Arts Academy enthrals audience in Mbombela

The Sinani Arts Academy kids showcased their talents to the public while raising funds at an event that was fully packed.

The learners of the Sinani Arts Academy showcased their talents at Church Unlimited on the evening of Thursday November 9 with such a spirited performance that won’t soon be forgot.

According to the academy’s organiser, Hannah Mohajer, the main purpose of the event was to showcase and celebrate the children’s hard work and to raise funds for the academy. It was also an opportunity to show the work done throughout the year. “Through the Sinani Arts Academy, our children have access to the visual and performing arts. Through dance, choir, visual arts and drama, these children now have ways to express themselves, which will help them heal from trauma and process the difficult things they may be going through, and also allow them to explore their gifts that may otherwise not have been realised,” she said.

Mohajer said the evening was a great success, evident by not only in the way the children performed, but the audience’s reaction. They were expecting only 200 guests, but far more turned up, an indication that they could take the show throughout the province and expand their impact across other communities.

“We would love to bring the arts to the rest of our communities, but distance might be a problem, as well as the fact that we do not have enough volunteers. However, we would love to expand our reach to areas such as Oakley, Bushbuckridge and Mpakeni.”

She called on those with a love of the arts to support the academy, either financially or volunteering time as instructor for choir, gumboots, dance, drama or visual arts.

The academy is an affiliate of Sinani Noma Kanjani, a registered non-profit organisation (NGO) that supports local community initiatives to feed and care for orphans, vulnerable children and widows. This NGO’s desire is to mobilise, encourage and equip people to aid in spiritual and physical needs.

During the event, the guests enjoyed a sumptuous seven-course meal while watching the show.
