Mbombela school investigating incident in which pupil was allegedly made to drink own urine

A disciplinary committee has been appointed by the governing body of Hoërskool Nelspruit to investigate an incident in which a pupil was allegedly made to drink some of his own urine.

The governing body of Hoërskool Nelspruit has appointed a disciplinary committee to investigate an incident in which a pupil at Huis Hermann Davin hostel was allegedly made to drink some of his own urine, reportedly by two older pupils, recently.

A video of the incident has been seen by Lowvelder and shows a pupil, wearing just shorts, drinking some of a yellow liquid from a bottle. He was allegedly made to do this by the two older pupils, one of whom is reportedly in a leadership position at the school, as a punitive measure.

It is alleged that the younger boy was threatened with a stick and told to
drink some of his urine. The other pupil filmed the incident with his cellphone. It is unclear when this incident took place at this stage.

In a statement by the school’s governing body chairperson, Daan de Kock, he said the incident is being viewed in a serious light and that it violates the “ethos and vision of the school and residence”.

He said the matter is being handled with the necessary responsibility. He also asked that anyone with information about the incident contact the school.

“Since the investigation is still in ongoing and minors are involved, no further information can be disclosed at this stage,” said De Kock.

“The governing body requests the opportunity to complete the investigation and asks the school community to place confidence in the process. Every process at school is also an educational process from which lessons can be learned,” he said.
