A suspect arrested for possession of explosives in Dientjie

The police recovered four detonators and a detonating cord, for which the suspect did not have a permit.

A 33-year-old suspect was arrested with explosives in Hlapetsa, Dientjie, on Friday August 4.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, after the police received information regarding the explosives, they kept a close surveillance on the suspect.

“The police stormed the suspect’s RDP family house at about 03:30. The suspect refused to let the police in, but they still gained entry.

“The suspect was found in his bedroom, where four detonators and one detonating cord were concealed,” he said.

Mohlala added that the suspect could not produce a permit to possess the explosives, hence he was arrested for contravening the Explosives Act and is expected to appear in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court on Monday August 7.
