Kevin ‘Fear the Fin’ Forssman meets his heroes in Durban

He was part of the Sharks' pre-match warm-up and led the team onto the field.

Kevin Forssman, one of the Cell C Sharks’ biggest supporters, led his beloved team out onto the Hollywoodbets King’s Park pitch on Saturday June 3.

The Malalane resident’s image was posted on the Sharks’ Facebook page on May 15 with the message: “This is what the win in Mbombela meant to our young fan. Help us locate him to thank him for his passion and to give him the opportunity to meet
the team.”

The Laerskool Malelane pupil was soon identified as the post was shared on various local Facebook groups.

The Sharks invited Kevin, mom, Mariette, dad, Ross, and brother, Keegan, to the match against the Fidelity ADT Lions.

The family drove to Durban on Friday.

“On Friday, when I was at school writing my exam I was not able to concentrate, as all I was just thinking about is what was going to happen over the weekend. We managed to leave school a little earlier and off we went to Durban. It was a long drive, which gave me lots of time to think about the game and what would happen. The closer we got, the more excited I became,” said Kevin.

The Sharks made Kevin a member of the team for match day and invited him into the changeroom and to take part in the on-field warm-up.

“It was a huge privilege to be there with them and take photos. Being able to speak to these big guys who I havT watched on TV for years, and now being able to be in the same room as them, was unbelievable and a memory that I will never ever forget.

“When I was given the ball to run out to put it in the middle of the field, it was a very scary experience because everyone was watching me and the crowd was very loud. But I ran as fast as I could and looked around and I told myself this is not that scary. Seeing Sharkie, the mascot, behind me was also very cool and put a huge smile on my face.”

Kevin learnt lessons that he can apply to his own rugby career, as a Lanies’ first team winger and with his high school years lying ahead. “The biggest thing was hearing what all players kept saying to themselves and each other – to never give up and give your best every time,” said Kevin.

From Facebook to onto the field at King’s Park – Kevin has had a fin-tastic experience.
