Two families nearly wiped out in car crash near Lydenburg, three dead

Three of the survivors are still in a critical condition in Kiaat Private Hospital in Mbombela.

A single-car crash on the Dullstroom road (R570) on March 26 at 18:00 resulted in three fatalities.
Lulu Hall from Lydenburg lost two of her children in the accident, Samantha (18) and Justin Erasmus (16).  Justin was a Grade 10 learner at Hoërskool Lydenburg.

Hall’s youngest son, Xadrien (7) underwent successful orthopaedic surgery on Friday and is currently recovering.

Her eldest son, Kevin (21) is also still in hospital.

Ayden Jacobs, the six-year-old-son of Jonty and Nadia, passed away in the accident too

Ayden Jacobs (6) passed away in the accident too.

Jonty sustained minor injuries. Nadia is still in Kiaat Private Hospital’s critical care unit. She sustained serious neck and back injuries and is currently in traction.

Nadia and Lulu are sisters and combined their households to save costs. The families had gone to visit Dullstroom on the day of the accident.

The circumstances leading up to the accident are still being investigated by the Lydenburg SAPS.

Emergency workers on the scene did indicate that the Kia in which the family members had all travelled, rolled and flipped over at least eight times.

“I focus on each day and what I need to do to get through that day. My biggest priorities are now my children who are still in hospital.  Thank you to friends, family and strangers who have been our saving grace during this awful week,” said Hall.
