Twelve golfers will aim to set a new world record at Mbombela Golf Club

Local golfers will aim to play 1 000 holes in 12 hours to benefit local charities.

On March 16, the Grace Family Fellowship will attempt to set a global record on the golf course when hosting its first-ever 1 000-hole golf charity event.

Twelve local players will attempt to play 1 000 holes in just 12 hours. This means that each player should complete 84 holes and have from 06:00 to 18:00 to do so.

“This is the first time a record of this magnitude will be attempted. We will be the so-called trailblazers,” Kelvin Fincham, the organiser of the event, said.

Independent referees will be counting each player’s holes played and the final tally and reconciliation will be managed by Stabilis Chartered Accountants.

Besides trying their hand at a new record, the event also serves as a fundraiser, aiming to provide financial support to local charities. These charities include Grace Family Fellowship, Grace Baby Haven and Ministry on Wheels.

Grace Family Fellowship is calling on businesses and individuals to sponsor any one of the 12 players. If you sponsor one player for R50 or more per hole, you will receive a two free tee boxes on March 16 and 17, as well as a fourball at 50% off. A sponsorship of R100 or more will get you two free tees and no playing fees. This offer will be valid on March 17, when the fellowship holds its annual golf day.

“This is also a good networking and entertaining opportunity for the sponsors and their clients,” Fincham said. “The whole idea is to create a festive environment. There will be regular refreshment handouts and other festive activities throughout the day.”

In order to generate more funds, they are also selling tees and greens on the course for March 17. It is R2 000 per tee and R2 000 per fourball, but when booking both, you save R1 000.

Both of these events are set to be held at Mbombela Golf Club, and to quote Fincham, “You don’t want to miss it!”
