Hazel Maditsi, organiser, said the event is aimed at showcasing local talent and to keep the youth off the streets.

The 22-year-old, who is also a model, has participated in a few pageants throughout her career, including Miss Burgersfort in 2021, at which she earned the title of first princess and public choice. During a vigorous training session for the upcoming event, the former Miss Ga Motodi coached the contestants.

“For the past few months our training was based on how to do the catwalk, how to face the audience and most importantly, how to answer questions from the judges.”

Hopefuls for Miss Thaba Chweu.

Since Miss Thaba Chweu is a non-profit organisation, which operates on a shoestring budget, organising the competition was not easy, but it taught her patience and courage.

“Most people withdrew at the last minute due to financial reasons, but we will continue with the competition. Thank you to those who stuck by me and believed in me,” Maditsi said.
