Eyewitnesses to young man’s serious vehicle accident sought

A young man who had dreamed of becoming a professional rugby player was left with a spinal injury and retrograde amnesia after a horrendous vehicle accident.

Bradley Garcia’s (21) dream was shattered after the accident on Saturday September 27. He has since recuperated well and is working on a farm outside Ohrigstad.

The family and Garcia’s attorney, Pieter Nel, are asking for assistance from the public or fellow motorists to come forward with information regarding the incident. Nel said that Garcia had suffered a C1 spinal cord injury, among others.

The accident occurred on the R36 outside Ohrigstad towards Hoedspruit, close to the Burgersfort T-junction. Garcia was driving a blue Ford Fiesta with registration number KFY 986 MP.

“The accident happened at around 15:00. He has no recollection of the circumstances. Motorists, the Ohrigstad SAPS and residents have reported that there are sometimes stray donkeys on that road. It is possible that Bradley might have swerved out to avoid a collision with the donkeys, but we are not sure. I am assisting the family to find out if there are any eyewitnesses who can confirm how the accident occurred. Wedding guests from a nearby venue also rushed to the scene,” said Nel.

“The doctors have confirmed that Bradley suffered from retrograde amnesia. It is the loss of ability to form memories for a period of time after the accident, leading the individual not to remember a period of time after the traumatic head injury. Bradley was taken to the Dilokong Hospital directly after the accident, and was transferred to Rob Ferreira Hospital. Bradley is currently at home with his parents near Ohrigstad. It is important to find out what had happened so we can ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident,” he said.
