SIM racers – are you ready?

In an initiative created by SA GT Racing Association, up to 50 teams with a minimum of two drivers will replicate the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge on 27 and 28 November.

Following the format of the K9H race programme, practise and qualifying as well as the Top 10 pole position shootout take place on Saturday 27 November, followed by the virtual Kyalami 9-Hour (vK9H) on Sunday starting at 12:00, with a 21:00 chequered flag finish, concluding the first of a three-year agreement with SRO.

The race will be hosted on the official SRO gaming platform, Assetto Corsa Competizione, with technical support provided by Monarch, the company behind the successful virtual Simola Hillclimb which saw 287 competitors vying for the King of the Hill title.

The vK9H is endorsed by the biggest SIM racing community in South Africa, SIM Race SA, and is expected to draw the best SIM racers in the country, along with SA GT competitors and other top real life racing drivers.

The vK9Hwill be broadcast live with expert commentary from Ernest Page and Daniel Haynes as well as various guests dropping in during the race.

Along with prizes for the winners, there will be a separate livery design competition.

Wayne Riddell, SA GT CEO said: “The vK9H is part of a bigger concept of the SA GT Championship. It is our intention to have a virtual race ahead of each national round next year. It will give our competitors a chance to hone their skills and the SIM community an opportunity to compete against real racing drivers”.

“With the ever increasing, and for most, out of reach expense of real world motorsport, we see the potential for SIM racing to become the ultimate grass roots formula,” added Jason Holden-Jones, SIM Race SA founder.

Eric Buijs, SA GT media manager concluded, “SIM Racing is going to be an integral part of our SA GT media strategy. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an accelerated interest in SIM racing and we can give the community the chance to become part of our series with endless opportunities”.
