Mpumalanga police hunt for gunman in Thandeka Mdeliswa’s shooting death

EVANDER – Thandeka Mdeliswa, who is well-known to South African viewers for her role in the TV soapie IKANI, was shot dead at her family home in Evander,  on Thursday.

Reports indicate that her brother and two men were arguing outside when Mdeliswa tried to intervene. One of the men drew a firearm and fired a shot, hitting Mdeliswa.

The two fled the scene and police and emergency medical personnel were summoned.

According to the provincial polices spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi, the police tracked the two suspects, but the shooter escaped. The actor was airlifted to eMalahleni before being transported to Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria where she succumbed to her wounds on Saturday morning.

Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, the provincial police commissioner, decried  the incident, labeling it “despicable” and  said,  “We cannot allow such inexplicable actions to go unpunished, hence we are making a clarion call to the public to assist in locating the killer. He has robbed the family and the country of a young life and talent.”
