Join in the pink walk for CANSA

Lydenburg CANSA will host a special Pink Walk on October 22 at 09:00.

LYDENBURG – Come October, come the time to wrap Lydenburg’s trees with pink ribbons to remind residents about breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As part of an awareness initiative, the trees along Viljoen and Voortrekker streets are wrapped in a bright-pink material.

Lydenburg CANSA will host a special Pink Walk on October 22 at 09:00.

Chairman of the Lydenburg branch, Isobel Janse van Rensburg, said participants will start outside Longtom SUPERSPAR and end at Tolbos Coffee Shop at Tumbleweed.

“The entry fee is R120 per person and includes a light meal and pink wrap,” she said.

The project aims to reach out to those affected by the disease and to raise funds to fight it.

The nationwide project of covering trees in pink fabric was started in 2012 by Carol-Ann van Jaarsveld, (she lost both her grandmothers to cancer) and breast-cancer survivor, Adri van Niewenhuizen, together with Dr Pam Ker, an educational psychologist.

The colour pink symbolises a new life. Information: Isobel on 074-661-0003.
