Residents get a fresh take on diet and health

Life-changing information was shared during an eye-opening health seminar at Lodge Laske Nakke

LYDENBURG – Residents of Lydenburg attended an eye-opening health seminar at Lodge Laske Nakke on Saturday, September 10. Various speakers shared life-changing information.

Dr Leon van Heerden, Elsie Robison, Stephanie Roos and Tanya Vogel were the speakers for the day.

Roos, a local pilates instructor, gave a presentation on “Movement for Life”. According to her, sitting is the new smoking.

“We were all designed to move and not sit. You need to keep moving and sort out your posture.

Actress Sophia Loren claimed that her secret to looking young was maintaining good posture and not making old people’s noises. If you are 30 years old and you have a spine of a 60-year-old, then you are 60 years old.

You need to remember if you are strong on the inside, you will be strong on the outside,” she said.

Vogel, a local dietitian, focused on a healthy diet. “It is very important to check the ingredients of the food you eat before buying. A healthy gut starts with the right diet. Be selective when you eat and avoid processed food as much as possible. If you know you have processed food in your home, use it and never buy it again. Try and find a healthier option,” she said.

Van Heerden gave a presentation on the ten pillars of a healthy lifestyle.

“Oxygen, food, stress, supplements, sleep, sunshine, water, exercise, elimination and detox. These pillars are all important and you need to consider all of them,” he stated. Robison shared information about mammograms and breast thermography.

“I chose to talk about this topic because I have a personal experience with this. After giving birth I notice that I had a lump in one breast. That really changed my life and I now have researched it and I now understand the early stages of cancer. We all need to be alert,” she said.
