Recreation hall to make way for new soccer stadium

The newspaper was informed that a Chinese investment company, similar to that of the Chinese housing project in Graskop, will invest R200 million in this project and is said to be completed by August next year.

LYDENBURG – The recreation hall in town will be demolished and will now make way for a state-of-the-art soccer stadium.
The newspaper was informed that a Chinese investment company, similar to that of the Chinese housing project in Graskop, will invest R200 million in this project and is said to be completed by August next year.
Steelburger/Lydenburg News contacted Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM) which confirmed that the project and discussions were underway.
The executive mayor of TCM, Mr Michael Ncongwane, said he supported this initiative and that this would contribute to the economy of the town.
“We are on board with this project and thinks that this is a great investment. The recreation hall does not generate any income and with the new stadium, Lydenburg and Mashishing will benefit tremendously.”
The company, China International Sport Stream, issued the newspaper with a press release regarding the project and said while it was still in its early stages, it believed that this investment, like the Chinese housing project, would benefit the town and create hundreds of job opportunities.
Mr Leon de Jager of AfriForum said at this stage they supported any development that add value to Lydenburg. “This stadium will be a huge tourist attraction for the town like the one in Mbombela. We hope that this will boost the economy of Lydenburg and Mashishing.”
The date on which the hall will be demolished has not yet been confirmed.
The newspaper will keep residents up to date on the development as it happens.
