DCM donates wheelchairs to local clinics in Steelpoort

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) made a massive impact within the physically disabled community when it donated wheelchairs to four clinics in Steelpoort last Friday.

The donations were part of Mandela Day celebrations.

Eerstegeluk, Boschkloof, Ngwaabe and Maseven clinics were the beneficiaries of 20 wheelchairs, five walking frames and sanitisers.

During the handover, nurses and home-based care workers applauded the mine for going an extra mile in assisting the needy.

The equipment was accepted by the operational managers at the four clinics. They thanked DCM for the much-needed donations.
According to Chrestina Lehwete, from Ngwaabe Clinic, the wheelchairs will be utilised by disabled residents who visit their clinics daily.

“We had shortages of wheelchairs at our clinic and these donations will assist greatly with the lack thereof. The new equipment is of high quality and they are comfortable. We are glad that DCM chose to assist. This will help us to ease the tasks at hand.”

Anna Mohlala from Boschkloof Clinic said pensioners will also benefit from the donated items.

“The elderly won’t struggle anymore. Gone are the days of sharing one wheelchair at a clinic. We thank this mine for caring about the needs of the elderly and the disabled. The wheelchairs will make a significant difference in the lives of our patients”

Mmakgobane Manyathela from DCM said they couldn’t have a bigger event due to the lockdown measures and current Covid-19 pandemic.

“We decided to invest in the health sector as it is strained during the Covid-19 pandemic. As we all know, Madiba dedicated his life to the kids, the elderly and disabled and hence we saw it fitting that DCM makes a difference in the lives of our disabled citizens.”

“We aimed to put smiles on their faces, and I believe we have achieved that. We will continue to give back and assist communities during these tough times.”
