ANCYL is ready to defend the party and its leaders

Almost 500 yellow-clad party supporters braved the heat to listen to Deputy President for the ANCYL and chairman of the youth wing in the province, Desmond Moela.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Mpumalanga launched its upcoming local government election Volunteer Corps Movement campaign into its heartland, Emjindini on Saturday, February 13.

Almost 500 yellow-clad party supporters braved the heat to hear Deputy President for the ANCYL and chairman of the youth wing in the province, Desmond Moela, say, “the youth need to ensure that they defend the ANC and its leaders”. He said that what they mean is to vote for them to stay in power and also to protect its leadership from insults.

“As we approach the local government elections, we (ANCYL volunteers) must ensure that we visit each and every corner of the community. Taverns, each home, touch each and every street and visit even churches to convince people to vote for the ANC. We need to ensure that the opposition parties get no single ward,” said Moela.

“We also need to protect our leaders (like our President, Jacob Zuma, and Premier, David Mabuza). We are not doing it because they are handsome, but because we will protect anyone chosen to lead the ANC. Not just the President or Premier, but anyone who will be chosen to lead the party,” said Moela.

He warned certain individuals, “The ANC belongs to the masses on the ground and it’s not corrupt. Yes, there are those few individuals within the ANC who are corrupt but it is not the whole ANC. Others think they own the ANC, once they are appointed into positions, they think of enriching themselves and empowering their children, wives, girlfriends and relatives, forgetting about the people who nominated them,” said Moela.

Accompanying him was the secretary of the ANCYL in Mpumalanga Sasekani Manzini, her deputy and councilor for ward-4 in Umjindi, Vusi Mkhathswa, and Ngrayi Ngwenya, ANC chairman in Ehlanzeni.

Manzini reminded volunteers that they must remain disciplined as they engage on their door-to-door campaigns.
“It is our responsibility as the ANCYL to ensure that the ANC wins the upcoming local government elections. As you sign this volunteer form, you are agreeing to whenever we come to you, at anytime of the day, and call on you to engage in a door to door campaign, you will be available without expecting any materialistic reward,” said Manzini.

The ANCYL said they also want to see the youth benefiting from employment opportunities, especially the members who are volunteering in the door-to-door campaigns.
