Highlands Park might host games at Mbombela Stadium

Absa Premiership-campaigning side, Highlands Park, might play their home games at Mbombela Stadium next season.

Club shareholder and director, Sinky “Twalaza” Mnisi has asked the Ekurhuleni Municipality to provide financial support to the club or face the possibility of the premiership side moving out of the East Rand township.

Mnisi said this is among the reasons that have led to Highlands contemplating relocation.

They have already identified Mbombela Stadium as their potential next stop.

It is sad and really heartbreaking that for the past five years, we have not had the first citizen visiting the boys or watching our games, yet the mayor, Mzwandile Masina, is able to attend the social games in December. No one wants to support us, mayor or the director of sport,” said Mnisi.

Mpumalanga has no team camping in the elite league. Mbombela Stadium is hardly used for soccer matches.

Last season it was used by SuperSport United as their alternative venue.
