Hope picnic in aid for cancer

The Hope Picnic is a family picnic in the Lowveld Botanical Garden, taking place on March 8. It is the Lowveld CANSA Relay for Life in a new guise. It focuses on celebrating, remembering and fighting back.

MBOMBELA – Bring your picnic basket and your family and spend an evening under fairy lights and the stars in the botanical garden.

Picnicgoers will be ferried to the botanical gardens for free by Citybug. The shuttles will offer all ticketholders a convenient and free trip from their cars to the garden gates and back, as parking at the venue is limited and reserved for survivors.

This year the important candle-lighting ceremony will have a slightly different format. The luminaria bags will be set up along the walkway picnicgoers pass to get from the gate to the picnic site.

Each candle commemorates the lives of those who have died from cancer and represents hope that a cure will be found.

The bags can be purchased beforehand at R20 each and will be collected at a central point before the picnic.  Survivors will be invited to do a victory walk to the picnic area.

After a short ceremony, they will join the picnickers for a picnic under the stars.  The Coffee Snobs will be performing and coffee and some eats will be on sale.

Picnic baskets are available from the organisers. A basket for two costs R250 and for four people, R350. They can be pre-ordered from the Innibos office on 013-741-5294.
