Hawks spokesman honoured at DPCI awards

The ceremony was held at Bundu Lodge to honour members of the police force and the Hawks who went beyond the call of duty.

MBOMBELA – Mpumalanga Hawks spokesman Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi recently won a Star of the Year award at the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) appreciation awards.

The selection process involved a thorough examination of all the departments within the Hawks and SAPS to select members whose achievements were worthy of being recognised.

Sekgotodi said she was extremely grateful to have won. “I was not expecting to win anything. It was truly a pleasant surprise,” she said. “I really felt humbled.”

It was not the first time that she received an award. “When I was working for the Namakgale SAPS as their spokesman in 2016 I won the Best Woman of the Year Award. Truly, it is an honour to have won another.” Photo credit: The Hawks.

Sekgotodi told Lowvelder she is participating in an awareness campaign about human trafficking at the Lebombo border. “We are handing out pamphlets to pedestrians and motorists which address human trafficking and woman and child abuse, as well as the contact details of relevant stakeholders so that people know who to contact when they encounter incidents of human trafficking.”
