UPDATE: 10 men on the loose following the latest Mbombela CIT heist

Police estimate that 10 men are on the loose following the bombing of a SBV CIT vehicle.

MBOMBELA – Police are looking for a gang of approximately 10 men that carried out a cash in transit heist in Mbombela on Thursday, November 30.

According to information released by police spokesman, Col Mtsholi Bhembe the suspects fled the scene in two white BMW’s an X5 and seven series.

SAPS has launched a manhunt for the suspects.

MBOMBELA – A SBV CIT vehicle was rammed from the road and bombed when an unknown number of suspects managed to block the vehicle late on Thursday afternoon.

According to Capt Pieter Smit of the SAPS the SBV vehicle was making its way to the SBV base via the road leading toward the University of Mpumalanga when a white BMW X5 and white BMW seven series rammed the vehicle from the road.

“The suspects removed the driver and crew from the vehicle and proceeded to bomb its safe, by using explosives set off with the car battery of the BMW,” said Smit. Following the explosion the SBV vehicle and BMW seven series caught fire.

Shaun Terblanche of J&M Security who was first on the scene said that close to 100 shots were fired, but none of the crew were injured.

According to Smit, SAPS suspect that between 15 and 20 suspects were in involved. They used AK 47’s in the heist and are currently the suspects are still at large.
