ANC sends MECs to parliament

Half of a party’s seats will be filled from the national list on which these individuals appear while the other half will proportionally be filled from the party’s province to national list.

MBOMBELA – The ANC won 249 seats the National Assembly during last week’s general elections. It is down from 264 in 2009.

Of the ANC members from Mpumalanga who won seats in parliament, various currently serve as MECs in legislature. They are Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, MEC for health and social development, Ms Dikeledi Mahlangu, MEC for public works, Mr Madala Masuku, MEC for finance, Ms Sibongile Manana, MEC for sport and recreation, and Ms Pinky Phosa, MEC for economic development.

Mr Siphosezwe Masango, former MEC for human settlements is also on his way to Cape Town along with Mr David Mahlobo, head of cooperative governance.

Half of a party’s seats will be filled from the national list on which these individuals appear. The other half will proportionally be filled from the party’s province to national list.

The DA won 89 seats in parliament. Representing Mpumalanga, four party members from its province to national list will take up seats in the national assembly.

They are the provincial chairperson Mr James Masango, interim DA Women’s Network coordinator Ms Tarnia Baker, provincial deputy chairperson Ms Sonja Boshoff and eMalahleni ward councillor Mr Henro Kruger.

Provisionally, parliament and national assemblies are to swear in its members on May 21. They will then elect the president and premiers in provinces, as well as speakers of the houses.
