Two police flying squad members arrested in Mpumalanga

Two police officers were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in cash-in-transit heists and ATM bombings.

Following a spate of CIT heists and ATM bombings in the province, a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, confirmed two arrests among the SAPS ranks last night, August 17.

Mohlala said two police officers, who are members of the flying squad, have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in these crimes.

Three officers were allegedly transporting eight rifles, which include three AK-47s and two pistols, of which one belongs to the police service, and some explosives.

Mohlala said the suspects had been travelling in a state vehicle. It had to be shot at by the police before it came to a halt. One of the two men who was arrested was injured after being shot in the hand. The third suspect is still at large.
