Four suspects arrested after CIT heist near Tonga

R8 000 in coins was stolen after a Fidelity Security Service cash-in-transit vehicle was bombed.

A collaborative effort led by the Hawks in Mpumalanga resulted in the arrest of four suspects a few hours after a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist took place on the Jeppes Reef road (R570), near One Tree Hill in Nkomazi, on Friday morning, August 11.

According to the spokesperson of Mpumalanga Hawks, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, the armoured vehicle (AV) of Fidelity Security Service was travelling from Malalane towards Tonga.

“Approximately 15km from the N4, the AV was rammed by a C-Class Mercedes-Benz. The AV lost control and overturned. It was then bombed and approximately R8 000 in coins were stolen. This cash was destined for a business in Tonga. The suspects fled in the direction of Tonga.”

She said the investigation is continuing as more information is being followed up and further successes are expected.

The provincial head of the Hawks, Major-General Nicholas Gerber, said the Hawks have had a serious impact in CIT heists over the past weeks.
