Finally some progress in Laerskool Laeveld’s construction project

Laerskool Laeveld's managemnet team, the Department of Education and the contractors on the project are finally on the same page regarding the necessary construction at the school.

Numerous officials affiliated with the Mpumalanga Department of Education visited Laerskool Laeveld on July 26. They attended a meeting in which the progress of the expansion project at the school, or rather lack thereof, was the main point of discussion.

The principal agent of the project, Dumisane Nkuna, scheduled the gathering.

Along with Laerskool Laeveld’s principal, Niël Jacobs, and its school governing body, they discussed the project thoroughly, as well as its timeline.

“The timeline will be sent to stakeholders as soon as the contractor has drawn it up,” the school told Lowvelder.

In the meeting, Laeveld was informed that the construction project would not be completed until next year.

The school’s classroom and space situation, which is becoming more difficult due to the delay in the project, was also discussed. No solution to relieve the space constraints was given.

Laerskool Laeveld is already using every available room for teaching and learning. Due to spatial constraints, it is almost impossible for it to take in more pupils. “By the time the classrooms are hopefully completed in 2024, the pupils who are not currently in permanent ones, will occupy all 13 ‘new’ classrooms,” the school said.

The safety of Laeveld’s pupils and staff was also an important point of discussion. “The contractor undertook to put safety above all else,” Laeveld relayed. “The school also provides assistance where necessary in this regard.”

The meeting dates for the remainder of the project have also been fixed and all parties are committed to them taking place.

In general, the progress meeting ended on a positive note. Shortcomings were pointed out and acknowledged, and all parties vowed to give their co-operation.
