No breakthrough in abducted Burgersfort businessman case

The police said there are still no signs of Tayob.

The Limpopo SAPS brushed off the rumours that businessman Solly Tayob had been reunited with his
family on Tuesday.

The police said there are still no signs of Tayob.

“We cannot confirm anything for now. Should something come up, we will reveal it to the members of the media,” said the Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Uncle Solly, as he is known, was abducted by a group of men at his dealership in Burgersfort on June 2.

A team, comprising of members of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit, the Burgersfort SAPS detectives and members of the Crime Intelligence Unit, is still hard on the heels of the suspects and is investigating cases of kidnapping and the pointing of a firearm.

“It is reported that Tayob was standing at his filling station next to his Hyundai dealership when the incident occurred at about 19:30.
“Five armed unknown male suspects accosted the businessman. They forced Tayob into a black Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI.
The Golf drove away from the scene followed by a white Mercedes-Benz, with registration number, 786 AGM L,” said Ledwaba.

He said they are also investigating a suspect who pointed a gun at a taxi driver who was filling up with fuel, a few
seconds before Tayob’s abduction.

“According to the information available at this stage, a taxi driver was confronted and a firearm was pointed at him by an unknown male suspect who demanded his vehicle’s keys and that he get out of the taxi. There were no passengers in it. The keys were taken and thrown away, with the taxi remaining at the filling station. They were later found nearby,” said Ledwaba.

The SAPS has appealed to the public for help in tracking down the suspects in Tayob’s case.
