Social workers celebrate one another in Mbombela

The Mbombela Social Workers Forum was launched in March. They recently held a celebration of their members and the career.

During the middle of March, 40 social workers came together in the city to celebrate one another.

The founders of the Mbombela Social Workers Forum, who organised the event, are Danél Liebenberg, a social worker in private practice, and Marla Louw, a social worker of Solidariteit Helpende Hand.

The two of them shared this brainchild six months ago and started planning.

“The reason for starting this forum is that many social workers voiced their need for networking and just coming together with others who understand what they deal with every day,” said the duo.

Social workers from different fields gathered on March 14 and celebrated one another in honour of World Social Work Day on March 21. They did speed networking to get to know one another and there were amazing prizes for lucky draws.

Every social worker who attended received two free movie tickets from Movies @ Emnotweni. Other sponsors included Wimpy in Ferreira Street, Bodycure and Salon Beauty Image. These businesses all did their part in thanking the social workers in and around Mbombela with various gifts and vouchers.

“The purpose of the forum is to create an opportunity for Mbombela social workers to connect, network and share knowledge in order to enhance professional service delivery in the area,” the founders said.

There was also a committee elected consisting of Zanele Hlatshwayo, Lindiwe Makhubela, Nondumiso Motha, Fikile Bongwe and Liebenberg herself.

Solidariteit Helpende Hand’s Lowveld branch also thanked the social workers by giving each one a cupcake.
