Marloth Park lions at it again

A warthog kill was recently made in Marloth Park, and a warning about the presence of lions was newly issued.

The carnivore team in Marloth Park has released an urgent warning about lions in the area yet again.

A lioness was spotted on the corner of Njala and Tarentaal with a warthog kill yesterday and is still very active in the general area. She was spotted again this morning, November 22.

The team warned the situation is extremely dangerous and pleaded with residents to be vigilant and alert.

They and security personnel are patrolling and monitoring the areas and situation.

An alert was issued for the area between Berghaan, Hardekool, Swartwitpens and Olifant.

The team said the lions have just about decimated the ostrich population and are now targeting other animals like the warthogs. This creates a big problem, as the lions will find the warthogs where they are sleeping under or on decks, under vehicles and in corners.

The MTPA’s carnivore specialist, Gerrie Camacho, confirmed the risk of lions seeking warthogs near residences and said people must approach their homes with caution, especially if they know warthogs frequent the area.

Joggers, hikers and cyclists were also warned.

The team asked that children not be allowed near these areas.
