Motorists warned of spiking incidents in Steelpoort

A local motorist has warned everyone to be extra careful on the R555, especially at night.

With the festive season approaching, criminals seem to be targeting motorists in Steelpoort.

A local motorist has warned everyone to be extra careful on the R555, especially at night.

“Last Monday at about 23:45, I was driving on the R555, approaching Ngala Camp, when both my front wheels hit spikes.
“There was a black BMW parked alongside the road. I assumed these were the guys who had put the spikes on the road, waiting for me to stop so that they could do their job,” said the motorist.
“I drove with two flat tyres until I reached Glencore Lion Smelter, where I found safety, and the black BMW turned around and went away.”

He advised motorists to be extra cautious.

“If you notice something wrong with your tyres when driving at night, please don’t stop. Just keep driving until you find a safe place to stop.”

The Limpopo SAPS’s Brigadier Motlafelo Mojapelo urged victims of spiking incidents to report them to the police.
