Full throttle at the TRACN4 Rally this year

For the third consecutive year, the leading round of the South African National Rally Championship – the TRACN4 Rally – will be held in the quaint and picturesque town of Dullstroom.

Always highly anticipated, the SA National Rally Championship is the oldest successive running championship in South African motorsport, and it must be said that this year’s series has been one of the most memorable and action-packed yet.

This is because not only are spectators once again permitted at sports events due to the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, but the performances given by the participating teams are always exceptional.

This leading motorsport experience, which boasts a strong local element for both teams and spectators, will be held over two days, November 18 and 19. The Emakhazeni district where the event is being held is well-known for its well-established cultural approach as well as touristy, laid-back vibe.

Several action-packed stages will be taking place in the forested areas surrounding the scenic little town, which is perfectly suited to the theme for 2022, which is “Going All Out”.

It is worth noting that while chok-a-block with action, the rally isn’t only all about fearless drivers, sharp navigators and high-speed driving. It’s also about the social and economic upliftment of the Emakhazeni community, and in line with this, the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre has been the beneficiary of this event since 2020.

Head office of Epilepsy SA for Mpumalanga, the establishment is the ideal recipient for the proceeds. Operational for a number of years, it plays a crucial role in the lives of those affected by epilepsy in the rural area of Mpumalanga. It is for this reason that the facility will serve as the media hub and 2022 rally headquarters, as in previous years.

The preceding two years earnings have gone a long way towards helping make life easier for the 80-plus staff members and occupants at the institution. This includes renovated residences, a freshly painted roof, a paved main entrance and a revamped viewing space around the sports field.

This year, TRAC has committed to the improvement of the establishment’s lapa area as well as restoration of its function hall. According to business shareholders in the area, the TRACN4 Rally has become a yearly highlight for the town from a commercial point of view, as the residents rely heavily on tourism for their livelihood.

“The teams enjoy taking on the surrounding forest roads, which are generously made available and expertly maintained by Safcol and S&N Boerdery. Now that spectators are finally allowed again, we are confident that this year’s TRACN4 Rally will be an even more memorable occasion!”

The rally is comprised of 13 stages, six on Friday, November 18, and the remaining seven on Saturday, November 19. The overall distance for the two-day rally is 204.74km, which will take place on private, local forestry roads, and viewing locations will be specially set up for spectators. The location of these will be communicated to the public on TRAC, NRC and Motorsport SA social media platforms.
