Public transport suspended in Ehlanzeni region
Local taxi associations said there are no guarantees that the roads will be open. People must use alternative transport to reach their destinations.
Communters who are depending on public transport will have to look for alternative means to reach their destinations due to ongoing disputes between taxi associations in the Lowveld and Buscor.
The two parties met this afternoon, September 28, with the MEC for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mohita Latchminarain, to come up with a solution to resolve their disputes. However, the meeting did not yield positive results. They agreed that they would not operate tomorrow, September 29, until further notice. A second meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 14:00.

The Buscor executive chairperson, Norah Fakude, confirmed that their buses would not operate. She said their clients would have to find alternative transport and apologised for the inconvenience.

The Ehlanzeni South African National Taxi Council’s spokesperson, Muntu Gama, echoed Fakude’s sentiments regarding agreeing not to operate until they meet to resolve their differences. “We are not operating, but there are no guarantees that the roads will be open. We will communicate after the next meeting.”
