Suspect arrested for murder of police sergeant in KaBokweni

The suspect's case was not enrolled in court; the matter is still being investigated by the Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Unit under the Directorate for Priority Crime.

The police have apprehended another man, suspected of murdering Sergeant Enock Nsimba on March 25 this year. The suspect was arrested at his hiding place in Bhejukufa near KaBokweni on September 17. A provincial police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, said he was arrested by the White River K9 Unit, joined by the flying squad and detectives from KaBokweni.

“The police received information regarding a man wanted in connection with the murder of Nsimba. This was followed up and he was arrested. The suspect was charged accordingly,” said Mdhluli.

He also said Nsimba was killed while investigating a planned armed robbery at Gutswa Guest House in KaBokweni. Upon arrival at the guest house, members of the crime intelligence and the KaBokweni Visible Policing team were apparently shot at, resulting in the death of Nsimba. Six suspects were arrested at the crime scene while another handed himself over to the police a few days later.

The suspect was supposed to appear in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 19, facing a charge of murder. However, the matter was not placed on the court roll and it is not clear if he was released.
Mdhluli said the Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime under the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is investigating the case and he could not give any further information about the suspect. The other seven suspects are due to appear in court on September 27 for a bail application.
