More than 1 000 suspects nabbed by Limpopo SAPS joint operations

Another 30-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol in Sekhukhune after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, on Thursday August 4.

SEKHUKHUNE – Some 1 218 suspects were arrested during joint operations conducted by various police units from July 24 to August 8.

The offences included the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, illegal hunting, murder, attempted murder, rape, fraud, possession of and dealing in drugs, common robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and many more.

A total of 7 830 counterfeit cigarettes,25 dangerous weapons, 21 knives, 15 firearms, a large quantity of dagga, crystal meth, nyaope, a large quantity of liquor, and five stolen or robbed vehicles were also seized during these operations.

The police recovered one abandoned white Nissan in Ga-Masemola on Friday, after it was reported stolen during a house robbery incident in Thabampshe Village on July 31 at 23:00.

“Another stolen vehicle, a red Polo Vivo, was found abandoned in Moutse, following reports about a hijacked vehicle in the area on Saturday August 6 at 23:00.

“Three suspects were arrested in Lebowakgomo on Sunday August 7 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, dealing in and possessing illicit cigarettes, and bribery,” said the Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafelo Mojapelo.
“The police received information about the suspects being in possession of unlicensed firearms. They approached the house and upon searching it and the two suspects, they recovered one unlicensed firearm and illicit cigarettes from a Toyota Camry. They were immediately nabbed. One of the suspects’ relative approached the SAPS offered them R5 000 to release them. He was also arrested.”

Another 30-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol in Sekhukhune after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, on Thursday August 4.

According to the Limpopo SAPS, all the suspects have started appearing in magistrate’s courts across the province.

The Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the SAPS teams for arresting the suspects and keeping the province safe.
