Woman killed in vehicle rollover on R37

A woman in her 20s was killed and her partner sustained moderate injuries when the vehicle in which they were travelling rolled multiple times on the R37 on Sunday night, August 7.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the incident occurred at around 21:30 just eight kilometres outside Mbombela.

Meiring said when ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, they discovered the vehicle that the couple had been driving upright some distance off the road in the bush.

He said a man was seated near the vehicle.

“Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained moderate injuries. He was treated and later transported to a provincial hospital for further care,” said Meiring.

He said the body of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was found sometime later lying in bush around 20 metres from the car.

“Unfortunately, she had already succumbed to her numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for her, and she was declared dead,” he said.

It was reported to Lowvelder by multiple sources that the woman’s body was found this morning, Monday August 8, at around 07:30.

The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
