Protests continue to flare up in Barberton area

Roads in the Barberton area were cleared this morning following protest action.

Protests erupted in Barberton on Tuesday and picked up again in the early hours of June 1.

Hi-Tech Barberton’s Sakkie Dednam sent through an alert at around 04:00 saying that all access roads to Emjindini had been blocked with debris preventing vehicles from getting in or out of the area.

A provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said the roads had been cleared early in the morning. The police are monitoring the scene and no arrests have been made.

Most foreigners’ shops had been looted as well as the Usave in the area.
