The tourists used the Numbi Gate to exit the park when they were attacked by four armed suspects.

Four tourists were attacked by four unknown suspects on the Numbi Road after exiting the Kruger National Park (KNP) on Monday 18 at around 15:00. “The car slowed down at one of the speed humps that had not been constructed by the municipality and the suspects pointed a gun at the driver, ordering him to stop. Fortunately, there were police on the same road in an unmarked car who noticed the car and went to investigate. The perpetrators a fired one shot at the police and fled the scene on foot with a phone stolen from the victims,” she said. She also stated that the tourists refused to press charges, which makes it difficult for the police to investigate the matter. No one was injured during the robbery.

The tourists were escorted from the Numbi Road to the safe place. “They decided to abandon their accommodation in Hazyview and are currently staying with a relative in Mbombela. We are pleading with all tourists to press charges if they are attacked so that police can investigate,” said Nonyane. The KNP’s general manager for communications and marketing, Isaac Phaahla, stated that they will not comment on the matter because it occurred outside of its jurisdiction and is now under police investigation. This is the second attack in three weeks. Two German tourists were attacked on the same road by two unknown suspects.
