Three men die in accident on N4 Toll Road towards Mbombela

Three people died in an accident that occurred near the N4 Mara run-off, after which one driver allegedly fled the scene on foot.

An articulated truck and two sedans were involved in a collision on the N4 Toll Road towards Mbombela near the Mara run-off on Wednesday March 30 at 21:00.

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, said all the vehicles were travelling in the direction of Mbombela from Malalane when the crash occurred.

“We believe that one of the vehicles (Nissan Sentraa ) was towing the other (a Toyota Cressida) when both lost control and veered in front of a truck travelling in the same direction.” The truck smashed into the back of one of the vehicles. Three passengers were instantly killed. The truck driver escaped unharmed,” he said.

Mmusi said investigations have already commenced. The road was partially closed to enable law enforcement and emergency personnel to work on the scene. “One of the drivers of the sedans allegedly fled the scene on foot, and the police are still looking for him,” he said.
