Mayor of Mbombela announces reappointment of municipal manager

The City of Mbombela’s (CoM) mayor, Sibongile Makhushe, made the announcement during the special council meeting held in the municipal chambers yesterday (March 28), that Wiseman Khumalo, a former municipal manager (MM), was reappointed to this position. Khumalo had competed with two other candidates before he was chosen.

He will be heading the administration of the municipality for the next five years, and is expected to deal with electricity outages, water shortages and potholes, while keeping the city clean.  Khumalo was first appointed as the MM in September 2019 on a two-year performance-based contract. He joined the CoM as an acting chief financial officer (CFO) in July 2017 and was subsequently appointed as CFO in September 2018, due to his phenomenal ability to work towards turning the finances of the municipality around.

He has over 15 years of experience in local government and has held the strategic accounting positions of both head of internal audit and CFO. He was part of team that formulated the City’s recovery plan along with the previous MM, Neil Diamond, who resigned in 2019.
