Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court postpones JJ Peters’ case for formal bail application again

During his second appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court, murder accused JJ Peters finally applied for a legal representative through Legal Aid South Africa.

The case of JJ Peters, who is accused of murdering his grandmother, Susanna Kilmister (68), has been postponed by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court until March 16 for a formal bail application.

According to the provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Monica Nyuswa, during his first appearance last week, Peters elected to conduct his own defence. In his second appearance on March 10, he changed his mind and elected to use the services of Legal Aid South Africa.

The accused is facing charges of murder, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice. He had been residing with the victim on Cromdale Farm outside Mbombela.

It is alleged that on February 28, the accused and the victim had had a heated argument, which led to the accused assaulting the victim until she died. Peters was arrested at the scene on the same day.
