Sabie Tube Race returns to the mountains at last

The long wait for the forestry town ended after two long years as the annual Sabie Tube Race was announced to return to Castle Rock Resort on February 4 and 5.

This festival is known as the event where people from all over spend the day floating down the Sabie River for kilometres on tubes and enjoy concerts from local and national music bands in the evening. Festivalgoers bring their own tubes, but there will also be ones available to purchase at the resort.

The organisation, Round Table White River 64, went through extraordinary efforts to host this year’s event and will implement high levels of safety. According to the head organiser, JL Coetzee, additional staff will monitor the riverside along with Capt Pottie Potgieter and his team from the SAPS Mpumalanga Diving Unit.

“The Covid regulations, as imposed by the government, will be monitored and enforced. Participants’ temperatures will be measured before allowing them into the festival and Covid questionnaires will be filled in by each attendee,” said Coetzee.

Weekend tickets can be purchased for R450. Ticket holders will have access to the campsite and may bring in their own vehicles, camping equipment and coolers.

The coolers cannot be brought into the arena as there will be cash bar facilities at the showground. A day ticket will also be available at R250, but holders of these tickets will be restricted from the campsite. Safe parking for their vehicles will be provided.

“We are grateful for having the opportunity to host the Sabie Tube Race and we motivate people to purchase their tickets soon, as it is a first come, first served situation and we are limited to only 2 000 people attending the festival,” said Coetzee.
