World Aids Day commemorated

World Aids Day, recognised across the globe as a means off raising awareness of the disease and its continued impact, was commemorated locally.

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality hosted this special event at the Lydenburg Civic Centre on Friday December 3.

“TCLM view HIV/Aids as not just a
health issue, but a social, developmental and economical issue that needs both proactive and reactive multisectoral strategies to confront,” said Friddah Nkadimeng, TCLM’s executive mayor.

Nkadimeng said commemoration days like these should be used as an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV/Aids, to show support to leople living with HIV and to commemorate people who have lost their lives due to the pandemic.

Nkadimeng echoed this year’s theme by
encouraging the public to get tested, get
vaccinated, and adhere to treatment.
Candles were lit as a symbol of hope to
those infected and affected by HIV/Aids.
