Inquest into Lily Mine collapse under way at Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court

The matter is expected to be completed by November 12.

The inquest into the Lily Mine container collapse started in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday November 2.

On February 5, 2016, Yvonne Mnisi, Solomon Nyerende and Pretty Nkambule had been in an office container when the mine collapsed and they were trapped inside. Their bodies have not been recovered since the container fell into the sinkhole.

The inquest into this matter had previously been heard in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court. The family members of the three trapped inside the container attended. Elmon Mnisi, Yvonne’s father, took the stand on Wednesday.

The provincial NPA spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, confirmed that the inquest had begun at the local Magistrate’s Court.
