Three accused of Hetta Potgieter’s murder to go on trial

The murder occurred on July 2, 2018 and the trial date was set for July 26 to August 13 this year.

The trial for the murder of elderly Lowveld resident, Hetta Potgieter (85), that started on Monday, will continue at the Mbombela High Court on Wednesday.

The matter was postponed as two of the accused needed to consult with their legal aid.

The police arrested three people, Shaun Oosthuizen (40), John du Plooy (28) and Maryna Vorster (50), shortly after Potgieter was found dead in her Macadamia Care Centre apartment on July 2, 2018.

The three face charges of murder and house robbery. While a trial date for the murder accused was set for July 26 to August 13, Mpumalanga NPA (National Prosecuting Authority) Monica Nyuswa said the matter was postponed to July 28 for Oosthuizen and Du Plooy to consult with legal aid.

Vorster’s bail conditions were extended while Oosthuizen and Du Plooy remain in custody.
