Most Lowveld dam levels now above 100 per cent

Dam levels continue to improve in the Lowveld, with Kwena being the only one of the major listed dams not to reach 100 per cent yet.

Dams that are at capacity are slowly declining according to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s weekly state of reservoirs report on March 8. The report shows that Longmere Dam showed the biggest increase, from 87,6 per cent to 102,3 per cent.

Buffelskloof Dam remained unchanged at 100,6 per cent, Blyderivierpoort dropped from 101,6 per cent to 101,2, Driekoppies Dam from 101,2 per cent to 100,9, Klipkoppie from 100,6 per cent to 100,2, Witklip from 100,9 per cent to 100,6, Primkop from 100,4 per cent to 100, Da Gama from 100,8 per cent to 100,3, Nooitgedacht from 100,6 per cent to 100 and Vygeboom from 101,8 per cent to 100,8.

Inyaka improved from 82,5 per cent to 83,9, Ohrigstad from 74,2 per cent to 76,3 and the ever-improving Kwena Dam from 91,2 per cent to 94,1.

Water volumes in the province dropped from 88,6 per cent to 88,5. Despite this slight drop, the situation is much better than the same period last year when the levels stood at 75,3 per cent.

As for the water management areas, Inkomati-Usuthu recorded a slight increase from 91,6 per cent to 92,7.
