Hawks investigation into Nkomazi municipality not completed yet

The investigation into the alleged Covid-19 funds procurement fraud, amounting to approximately R27 million at the local municipality, is still underway and no arrests have been made yet.

NKOMAZI – Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi of the Hawks, earlier told Corridor Gazette that the operation followed investigations in relation with alleged Covid-19 funds procurement fraud, wherein the appointment of contractors and service providers was inconsistent with the requisite regulations.

Documentation concerning the allegations was seized at the municipal offices in Malalane at the end of Augusts.

“The monetary value involved is approximately R27 million. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s serious commercial crime investigation, digital forensic laboratory and the local SAPS’ criminal record centre seized several documents from different offices, which will assist in the ongoing probe,” said Mulaudzi.
