GRIP provides support for women and children in Mbombela

GRIP has been privileged, through the generosity of the National Lottery and the Department of Social Development, to be in a position to offer shelter to survivors of domestic violence and their children in Mbombela since 2010.

Shelters provide critical services to victims experiencing the trauma of domestic abuse, providing a safe place to stay, counselling, support and skills upliftment to help women and children stand on their own again.

“We are currently renovating the shelter to make it a larger, bespoke space where we can help more women and children to become heroes for their communities. A bigger space means we have a larger area to make a home,” said GRIP founder, Barbara Kenyon.

“Any donations of pre-loved furniture such as a lounge suite, dining room table and linen as well as curtains will be sincerely appreciated. We want to invite community members who would like to transfer skills such as sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, hairstyling, doing nails or computer skills to assist in leaving a legacy in these families’ lives, to join the GRIP family.”

If you have any other skills such as flower arranging, baking, cake decorating and other talents that have not been thought about, please share it with the organisation.

It urges women to report cases of GBV so they can be assisted with support and counselling, and can be linked to the shelter for safety, their mental well-being and to be empowered in order to become economically independent, uplifting themselves and contributing to the economy of the country.
