At least 12 Covid-19 cases recorded at Mpumalanga police stations in one week

Both Nelspruit and Barberton police stations were hit twice, with the latter being the most recent.

As the number of positive Covid-19 coronavirus cases increase, police stations across the province continue to record new cases on an almost daily basis.

In the past week there have been cases at least 12 police stations that were forced to temporarily close. These include Volksrust, Bethal, Middelburg, Emzinoni and eMalahleni. in the Highveld, Hartebeeskop near Oshoek and Komatipoort, Nelspruit, Pienaar and Barberton in the Lowveld.

As with Nelspruit Police Station earlier in the week, Barberton Police Station recorded its second case yesterday when a member based at the station tested positive. The Community Service Centre will now be operated at 64 De Villiers Street, next to the station.

“To access the station, the community can call 082-923-1593 for all emergencies and complaints which will be attended to accordingly,” said the provincial police spokesman, Brig Leonard Hlathi. He added that the telephone lines at Barberton Police Station Community Service Centre will not be accessible for the duration of the closure.

“However service delivery will not be hampered,” he said. The building will now be sanitised and is expected to reopen on Tuesday.

SAPS management in Mpumalanga apologised for the inconvenience.
