Hungarian-born pianist and composer Franz Liszt is one of the world’s most famous piano virtuosos. Not only was he a prolific composer and trendsetter of the 19th century, but had quite a knack with the ladies too.
Due to his influence, the concert piano got turned sideways. In previous centuries the pianist had his back to the audience.
The reason being was that concertgoers could now see the pianist’s hands flying across the keys, and in particular in the case of Franz Liszt, his prominent profile could be admired.
